Brownies and Lemonade threw a benefit rager at UCLA yesterday. The concept for B&L started back in their UCLA days where they started throwing parties in their apartment to provide an alternative to clubbing and frat parties. Since that seed was planted around 10 years ago, B&L has taken on a life of it’s own and has grown way beyond their original plans.
B&L teamed up with student-run organizations UCLA EDMC and CEC to curate a concert to raise awareness for the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Mattel Children’s Hospital. According to their GoFundMe campaign, “Music therapy is a powerful tool that can be used to fight anxiety and depression, two common side-effects of chemo-therapy and cancer in general. . .Music is a strong unifying force, and we strive to create an inclusive, collaborative environment at our concert where students can learn about pediatric cancer while relying on the support of others around them. “

The flier for last night’s event listed secret guests all night long, and if you know B&L, you know they only bring out the best. Last night’s secret guests were RWDY, EsKP, Shawn Wasabi, KRANE, and Mija.
RWDY started the night off with industrial house. EsKP brought back the 90’s with psychedelic house. Shawn Wasabi’s set was energetic and playful, ranging from Blink 182 to Moombathon. KRANE kept the crowd energetic. Mija kept the crowd on their toes by playing everything from Skepta to Emo Nite jams to house.

Brownies and Lemonade is known for finding underground artists with potential and introducing them to their jam-packed ragers in LA. This makes them one of the most influential curators in the underground music scene. Last night’s benefit showcased B&L’s philanthropic side that enjoys giving back to the community while celebrating their roots. B&L sets the bar high and creates a new standard for how underground shows in LA are curated. This approach combined with the level of fun their shows are makes them nothing short of legendary.
